The following are but a small number of the numerous places in the Bible where God reveals his divine knowledge to the astonishment of man.
Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For further proof of the "higher thoughts" of God, try to answer the questions posed to Job in chapter 38. Now notice the following:
He stretcheth out hte north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
to the people of the ancient world, the earth was definitely held in place by something. Some, such as the Romans, assumed that the earth was held up by the god Atlas. Others decided that it rested on the backs of turtles or other animals. The book of Job certainly points out the scientific truth in that it hangs upon nothing. In other words, there is nothing holding the earth in place. This fact could only be revealed by God, because no man had been to the north or south pole to confirm this. It was not until the early part of the past century before that feat was finally completed.
Interestingly, if one stands at the north pole and looks straight upward during the night, they will see a vast open space with no stars. In fact time-elapsed photography made throughout the night will reveal the spin of the earth with no stars directly above.
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
Matthew Fontaine Maury is often called the "pathfinder of the seas," but few know the real story behind his discovery. As he lay on his bed from a sickness, he called for his son to read to him from the Bible, in particlular the eighth Psalms. This psalm is referred to as prophetic in that it is referenced by Paul in the second chapter of Hebrews and in particular with Jesus. When his son read the eighth verse he commanded him to read it again. It is reported that he said, "If the Word of God says there are paths in the sea, they must be there. I will find them." In just a few short years he had charted the principle lanes or 'paths' of the sea. Of these we have but to look to one of the greatest of these, the Gulf Stream.
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
Although it is assumed that there were many ancient peoples that believed that the Earth was flat, the fact is that there were many that believed it was round. During Columbus' historic journey to the East Indies, many was the man that was afraid that they would fall off of the Great Cliff at the end of the world and never see home again. Columbus believed that the world was round and so did Isaiah in his reference to the "circle of the earth."
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitations;
Recently, scientists have pointed out that all men, women and children of each of the races is related by the relationship of the DNA in their blood. As a matter of fact I am 'O positive' as are the majority of African Americans, yet I am white. Indeed we are all of one blood.
Rain is simple the outcome of the cycle of precipitation. This cycle begins by the sun's heat drawing moisture from the ocean, which is then blown across dry land where it eventually becomes rain (simplified). Solomon knew this long before any of our modern scientists.
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
It is said that the waves of the sea are the most destructive force on earth, outside of natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. This is born out by the constant erosion of cliffs by the waves such as at some of the Hawaiian Islands. But there is no erosion at the beaches of Panama City or any other beach, due to the ability of the sand to deter the waves. Jeremiah indicates his powers of observation which are unprecedented for someone of that time pereiod.
